Negative taken for November 25, 1958, Arkansas Gazette article "Education 'Pioneer' Still Is Serving at Berryville," 1B2. Negatives and copy-negatives of Clarke's Academy at Berryville, Carroll County, Arkansas, as it appeared in the late 1800s (0299.4, 0299.7) and in 1958 (0299.2, 0299.5). Long used as a training center for northern Arkansas youth, the building was originally constructed by Professor Isaac A. Clarke (0299.8) to house the academy that opened in 1867. The original building burned in 1873, a portion of the new building that Clarke designed and constructed remains standing today. Isaac Clarke's grandsons Digby (1903-1988) and Herbert West, both Berryville bankers, and their wives lived in the building in the 1950's.
